A master plan, with several unique components, was developed for the City of West Point. Located on the Chattahoochee River, just south of West Point Lake, the City of West Point was born and still thrives. Over the years, the fluctuation in population and industry created interesting changes in the area. With the rise of new industry, the City wanted to explore unique growth opportunities. The jB+a master plan was composed of three major elements: The Downtown River Front and Urban Plaza including plazas, fountains, pedestrian ways, performance spaces, markets, and many other urban elements; The River Front and Active Parks incorporating a hierarchy of trails within the parks and preserved Native American structures and artifacts, while utilizing the city’s history as part of the design; and the River Front Trail Network creating connections that utilize both river banks, the West Point Dam, existing bridges, proposed bridges, a blue line trail on the river, and an underwater archaeological tour. The final master plan not only provided beautiful visions for the future, but methods to secure and raise funding.
