jB+a Urban Design Studio worked with the City of Stone Mountain to enhancement their Historic District. Following the vision created by the Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) study, the City utilized Transportation Enhancement (TE) funds to implement the first phase of their streetscape improvements in the Downtown Business District. jB+a designed the new improvements reflect the area’s history, incorporating granite in the brick sidewalks and pedestrian street light that are reminiscent of the old railroad style. The revitalized downtown will enjoy more public space with wider sidewalk and a larger plaza and park around the Village gazebo. Street trees, flowering trees, landscaping and furniture enhance the aesthetics of the Village; while narrowed drive lanes, bulbouts and a raised, mid-block crosswalk add to the walkability of the area.
