glen emerald rock garden park

The jB+a Park Design Studio developed a restoration master plan for the Glen Emerald Rock garden, located in DeKalb County, Georgia. The original 1.6 acre soapstone rock garden was designed in the 1930s by William L. Monroe, a local Landscape Architect, and construction of the garden was funded privately. However, due to fi nancial constraints, the garden was never fully constructed. The jB+a Park Design Studio worked with DeKalb County, non-profi t organizations and community stakeholders to complete the master plan in the style originally laid out by Monroe. The restored garden will include a series of water falls and streams, a soapstone pedestrian bridge, several pocket gardens including: water garden, sunny rock garden, woodland garden, social garden, naturalized garden, habitat garden and vista garden – with views to the distant Glen Emerald Lake. The pockets will be linked together by way of an ADA compliant natural stone path.
