Garden City was founded as a suburb to Savannah, Georgia. Located on the Savannah River and home to the Georgia Ports Authority and many shipping and industrial businesses, the City had a desire to establish a new identity and “sense of place.” jB+a worked closely with the City and assisted them in redefining themselves and realizing their vision with the Master Plan for Garden City Town Center. The Master Plan creates “outdoor rooms” for people while providing facilities for a new City Hall, library, and institutional, commercial, and retail services for the community. Connectivity is achieved throughout the site with a hierarchy of paths. Some of the exciting elements occurring in the public spaces are fountains, gateways, a relocated historic house, gardens, plazas, a formal raised lawn, and informal amphitheater.
