The Dog River Park site encompasses over 800 acres of land located north of the Dog River Reservoir, Douglas County’s primary drinking water supply. The rugged topography and the natural beauty of the property lend the use of the site to a passive recreation area. The primary intent of the master plan is to create a park design that will also protect the watershed resource for the Dog River Reservoir.
The jB+a Park Design Studio prepared a 20-Year Master Plan for the Dog River Park site, which displays a variety of passive recreation uses including multiple trail systems with trailheads,
parking, public access to the river, canoe launch and take out, picnic facilities, dog park, playgrounds, a primitive camping area and an interpretive / nature center and supporting
facilities. In addition, municipal and active recreation facilities are also sited on the master plan including a fire station, library, senior center, ball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts and an aquatics center. Dog River Park will provide extensive recreation opportunities as it is developed in anticipation of the continued growth of Douglas County.
