| athens-clarke county greenway network
The North Oconee River Greenway Network, sited on
the Oconee River, is one of Athens-Clarke County’s
largest SPLOST funded new greenway systems.
Currently, The North Oconee River Greenway is a 3
mile long, 10’ wide paved multi-use path. The Greenway
connects with Cooks Greenway Trail at Sandy Creek
Nature Center and follows the North Oconee River
south toward downtown Athens and the University of
Georgia. The jB+a Park Design Studio worked with
Athens-Clarke County to map out and expand the
greenway trail North of the Sandy Creek Nature Center
to the County line. Smaller parks around the area were
also connected to the greenway system via a “green
link”. This expansion of the greenway brings the new
length to 6 miles. Additional expansion south of The
University of Georgia is also planned for the future,
increasing the greenway length to a total of 8 miles.
