Harmony Village is a single family community located on Flat Shoals Road in south Atlanta. Working with Africa’s Children’s Fund, the Cooperative Resource Center is developing this 23 acre tract of pasture land into a neighborhood of bungalow-style homes. The CRC called on jB+a, inc. to improve on an existing site plan that had been developed for permitting. jB+a developed two separate site plans that maximized green space and minimized disturbed areas and impervious surfaces. In fact, the project was displayed at the AIA 2004 Green Design Showcase, which highlighted projects that integrated environmentally responsible design methods and materials. The homes are set back from the road a maximum of 20’ and have minimal setbacks between homes. Common driveways take vehicles around to the back of the homes. With such strong street presence and no cars present, the neighborhood provides a great pedestrian atmosphere for its residents.
